Our history of remanufacturing speaks for itself.

CMS has been re-manufacturing cranes for more than 50 years. We don't treat it like a sideline simply because it's popular in today's economic climate. Crane modernization is what put CMS in the crane business in 1961 and it continues to be a major part of what we do today.

An effective rebuild always starts with an experienced supplier who can provide the manufacturing details of the original design. Those details provide critical information to support any prospective upgrade. CMS is uniquely qualified to provide these services for cranes manufactured by Crane Manufacturing, Northern Engineering and Cleveland Crane.

We can help identify exactly what modifications are required or recommended to meet any new criteria you may have for span, capacity, performance, operator interface or revised dimensional requirements.

Our experienced engineering staff can suggest (through a study and proposal) the most effective ways to apply new technology to your existing crane design, including electrical, mechanical or structural modifications.

Crane Renewal Checklist
In many cases an engineering study is completed at the beginning of the project. This allows us to review an existing design in detail making specific recommendations that will meet or surpass your new requirements. Examples of items most often included in a complete study and modernization project are:

  • Control conversion and update (Magnetic Contactor to Solid State AC or DC)
  • Electrification upgrades (Hard Bar to Festoon or Power Track)
  • Change operator interface (Cab, Radio, Pulpit or Pendant)
  • Changes in span, clearances and capacity
  • Changes in Horsepower requirements and modifications of Motors, Controls and Brakes
  • Replacement or upgrade of Gearing, Shafting and Bearings
  • Structural modifications * New requirements for accessories and auxiliary devices
  • Update Wheel and Rail requirements
  • New lubrication requirements
  • Specification update
  • Match crane performance to new production process
  • Update and replacement of crane wiring
  • Replacement of worn or damaged components
  • Replacement of all bearings and seals
  • OSHA and ANSI compliance
  • Updated and complete drawings and documentation
  • Sandblasting and painting for a like-new appearance

The list goes on depending on your specific requirements. A CMS Rebuilt crane carries the same warranty as new equipment for a substantially lower cost.

From the idea stage to final installation and commissioning, CMS can provide your entire crane rebuild project on a turnkey basis.
